Koh Kho Khao

The island of Koh Kho Khao is situated approximately 30 minutes north of Khao Lak, just outside the town of Takuapa.

As a quiet and peaceful island, Koh Kho Khao is the closest to a "Robinson Crusoe island" you may experience. At the pier, there are a number of good restaurants, small shops and a couple of tailors. In addition, you will find a number of small bars and massage huts along the 18 km beach. In short, there is plenty of "civilized life" available on the island. If you want more extended shopping, you'll find everything you may want in Khao Lak, a half an hour drive away.

The gorgeous island of Koh Kho Khao is 65 square kilometres, mostly untouched, with diverse scenery and abundant wildlife. The most famous part is the wonderful beach along the entire west coast where turtles lay their eggs from November to February.

In recent years a few new resorts have been built, yet you may still walk virtually alone along length of the beach. At the south end of the island, you will find a few beach restaurants built in bamboo that serve delicious local dishes at very reasonable prices.

Rent a scooter

Take an unguided trip all around the island on a scooter, available for rent at Paradis Villa.

On your way north towards Sunset Beach, there are several side roads that lead to a number of locations where rubber is produced and sea farms that breed both scampi and fish can be found.

At the north end of the island, the scenery and terrain is quite different from the pier area. The sea and fjords meet outside the Sunset Beach restaurant. The waterfront in this area moves massive amounts of sand, making the beach terrain change drastically from one year to the next. Your next visit may thus be a completely new experience!

A sunset on Koh Kho Khao is an absolutely extraordinary experience and a favourite subject for anyone with a camera. At the Sunset Beach restaurant, you may even venture further towards the northernmost tip of the island. Remember to put on enough sunscreen however as the sun is particularly strong here due to the large sand surface.

Baan Pak Koh – The Pier

The main village on Koh Kho Khao is originally named Baan Pak Koh, but is known to everyone as "the Pier". This is where the ferry and long tail boats from the mainland dock. Here, you will find nice restaurants, some interesting bars with billiards and other games, tour and travel agents, mini markets, small shops and an ATM.
